Lodge member Bernie Ogden died shortly after an accidental fall at his church on the evening of Wednesday, April 24, 2013.  Born in Port Huron on September 3, 1925, Bernie was 87 years old.

Bernie became a member of Detroit Lodge No. 7 on February 1, 1993 and served as our lodge Sentinel from 1994 until the time of his passing. He also served on the lodge audit committee for many years.  Bernie truly loved the camaraderie of his fellow ISMA members, and rarely missed a membership meeting.

After graduating from high school, Bernie sailed briefly in an unlicensed capacity for the U.S. Steel (Pittsburgh) Fleet.  His sailing days were short-lived, however, as while aboard the Str. Joshua A. Hatfield, he was drafted to serve in the U.S. Navy.  He was sent to the Pacific Theater, where he served as a signalman.  Following WWII, Bernie attended the University of Detroit, where he earned a degree in economics and accounting.  Following college, he began a career with the Cadillac Motor Car division of General Motors, where he worked as an auditor.

Bernie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret, and three children: Karen (Richard) Dixon, Michael (Renee) and Steven (Jill).

In addition to ISMA, Bernie was also a 25-year member of the Marine Historical Society of Detroit, Dossin Marine Group, and the Cadillac & LaSalle Club. He was also active at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Livonia.

Visitation will take place on Friday, April 26 from 4-8 PM at the Fred Wood Funeral Home - Rice Chapel; 36100 Five Mile Road (East of Levan) in Livonia.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 27, at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church27475 Five Mile Road (just West of Inkster Road) in Livonia.  Gathering at 2:00 PM; Service at 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be directed to Dossin Great Lakes Museum, St. Paul's Presbyterian Church or the Cadillac & LaSalle Club.
