Tour of Port of Monroe

December 11, 2018

Members of Detroit Lodge No. 7 were invited to tour the Port of Monroe on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. The tour was conducted by Port Director Paul LaMarre III, who is a member of Toledo Lodge No. 9. Attending from Detroit Lodge No. 7 were Tom Allor and his wife Sheryl, Chuck Wagner, Brian Eickel, Art Brooks, Malcolm McAdam, Paul Jagenow and Wayne Sapulski.

Port Director LaMarre gave a power-point presentation showing how the Port of Monroe has evolved and expanded over the years. The Port of Monroe markets itself as "The Biggest Little Port: Michigan's only port on Lake Erie" and serves as the gateway to the state's far reaching multi-modal transportation network.  Mr. LaMarre explained the multifaceted aspects of the port that merges maritime shipping, truck transportation and rail service. After the presentation, the attendees were driven around the port facilities and shown in real life the sights described during the power point presentation. The tour concluded with a visit to the Tug Wisconsin, which serves the port by providing ship tows and ice breaking services. Upon departure from the port, the lodge members adjourned to the Harbor Inn and Ale Restaurant in nearby Bolles Harbor for lunch.
