Great Lakes Memorial Service

Several lodges of the ISMA were in attendance at the Great Lakes Memorial Service held at Detroit's Mariners' Church on Sunday, November 10, 2019. Numerous ISMA members were in attendance: Roger Hewlett and Joe Ruch of Port Huron Lodge No. 2; Ray Oset, John Mantyk, Tom McMullen, Jack Callahan, Rick Scott, Brian Eickel, Chris Stevens, Ron Ingram, Mike Nall, Lynne Kogel, Ron LaPlante, Ken Suddick, Paul Jagenow and Michael Droogleever of Detroit Lodge No. 7; and RADM Jerry Achenbach of Grand Traverse Lodge No. 23.

Captains Hewlett, Scott, Eickel, Stevens, Ingram, Kogel, Nall, Suddick and Droogleever served as official bell ringers and as members of the honor guard on the altar.  The Octorara bell was rung 9 times for mariners lost on the various waters of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway, plus a final toll for military personnel rung by LTC Gregory Turner, Detroit District Commander USACE.

Detroit Lodge member Fr. Jeffrey  M. Hubbard, Rector of Mariners' Church, officiated and was assisted by Detroit Lodge member Deacon Frank Bateman.  Detroit Lodge member Kathy McGraw was present in her capacity as Sexton of Mariners' Church.
