USCGC BLACKTHORN Memorial Service - January 28, 2010

On Thursday, January 28, 2010, Lodge Member Tom Allor represented Detroit Lodge No. 7 and the Propeller Club - Port of Detroit at a memorial service held on the 30th Anniversary of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Blackthorn disaster.    The Blackthorn sank after colliding with the tanker Capricorn on Jan. 28, 1980, in the biggest peacetime disaster in Coast Guard history.

The service took place at Blackthorn Memorial Park, St. Petersburg, FL, off Interstate 275 on the north end of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, 2 miles from where the accident took place.
